What is the role of quilted kitchen appliance covers in the kitchen? Several studies have shown that home accidents are more common in the kitchen than in any other part of the house. This is actually understandable as cooking is normally done in the kitchen where fire, gas and a good number of sharp and pointed objects are regularly used. As such, practicing caution while working in the kitchen should be regularly observed. One good and effective way of keeping safe while preparing food in the kitchen is to make use of hand covers. This is especially true when handling electrical appliances and kitchen utensils.
These serve to protect the hands from expected burns and scratches that normally come whenever there is cooking being made. Unfortunately, not all kitchen appliance covers last long enough largely due to constant wear and tear. As such, it can be a bit difficult getting the appliance cover that can outlast the appliances themselves. After a few uses, it is but normal for most kitchen covers to start showing significant damages, and the cost of purchasing a new set may not be worth it.
The alternative is to create personalized kitchen covers, and with the Yuletide season fast approaching, these cover types are a good way of saving up on the family budget that is normally expected to shoot up during this time of the year. It is likewise a good way of making excellent use of any hidden creative skills.
In keeping with the spirit of the season, quilted kitchen appliances covers are the most appropriate to create. This need not involve a lot of unnecessary expenses since leftover materials can be utilized, although a point that ought to be considered are the colors chosen. Ideally, these should coordinate with the kitchen colors, enhancing the area in a unique fashion.
Start by measuring the length of the two covers of one kitchen appliance; an oven should prove to be the perfect candidate. Normally, the distance from one end of the screw attaching the oven door to the stove up to the end of the opposite screw will serve as the length of the appliance cover. For this purpose, however, a 16-inch cover will be used as an example.
The next step is to cut two fabric pieces 7 inches in width and 16 inches in length. For oven door handles that are either bigger or smaller, the corresponding adjustments will have to be made. Afterwards, look for any old blanket; it will serve as wrapping around the handle, so thickness should be considered. A not-so-thick one is ideal, but if only a thin blanket is available, two strips will have to be considered.
Press the fabric on all the four sides as this will ensure easier sewing. Try to ensure, however, that when pressing, approximately only ½ inch of the sides will be ironed. After pressing, use straight pins to keep the pieces together while preparing for sewing. The sewing, on the other hand, should involve straight stitches surrounding the four sides approximately 1/4 inch away from the edges. Continue sewing a straight seam of around 3 inches from every end to keep all linings in place. Afterwards, use Velcro snaps or strips as attachments to the inner cover edges. This should produce a set-up where one edge is in a slightly overlapping position.
